Here lies Bridget review

Here Lies Bridget by Paige Harbison, published by Mira Ink £6.99 http://www.miraink.co.uk/
What's it about?
Bridget Duke is the uncontested ruler of her school. The meanest girl with the biggest secret insecurities. And when new girl Anna Judge arrives, things start to fall apart for Bridget: friends don't worship as attentively, teachers don't fall for her wide-eyed "who me?" look, expulsion looms ahead and the one boy she's always loved—Liam Ward—can barely even look at her anymore.

When a desperate Bridget drives too fast and crashes her car, she ends up in limbo, facing everyone she's wronged and walking a few uncomfortable miles in their shoes. Now she has only one chance to make a last impression. Though she might end up dead, she has one last shot at redemption and the chance to right the wrongs she's inflicted on the people who mean the most to her.

And Bridget's about to learn that, sometimes, saying you're sorry just isn't enough….

My review:
4/5
This book really is like a guilty pleasure! I know I shouldn't like protag Bridget, she's mean, selfish, immature, and completely self involved, yet I loved her and found her to be really quite funny! As we go along we learn that she acts like she does because she's insecure and craves attention from an absentee Dad, but She goes about it the wrong way. These were things that endeared her to me.
The book itself was written and laid out really well so everything lined up. The first half follows Bridget and the events leading up to her being trapped in limbo and shows her character, it's funny and had me gasping out loud at her outrageous behaviour.
Then in the second half I found myself close to tears several times as Bridget literally walks in the shoes of the people she's hurt and sees just how bad she's been, and is desperate to just atone for her actions and become a better person.
It felt very much like a modern day 'It's a wonderful life' and I loved it. I definitely would recommend to all my friends.

Guest Poster - Emily Gossett

'Behind the scenes' by Emily Gossett, author of Awaken me.

I began writing awaken me after I had a really intense dream. I woke up going I have to write this down! I never anticipated to have the book come to life the way it did. I though it would be a short story or a thought I had to write down. But the idea grew and grew! After finishing the first draft, which I wrote in a week, I sat back and was like wow, it has a mind of its own. I listened to a lot of music while i wrote and it helped me get in the mood of each scene. I love Edward Maya, his music really set the tone of the book. My main character Aimee was inspired by my sister "Aimee". Whom I actually added some of her personality into the character Aimee. Lol. A fun fact is that a lot of friends are like "is Aimee you?" I told them no, not intentionally. She just has a quirky personality traits like me. Marcus, the werewolf was my favorite male charter to write. His personality is really chilled and charismatic. He was a basically my close guy pal. After the second draft of the book I had a close friend read it and she called me when she was done asking when I would start the second book. It then hit me, maybe my story is good and worth sharing. It then sky rocketed after I had an agent read it. From there, it just became real for me, I'm my biggest critic and I'm so critical of my work that my friends had to pry my fingers from my manuscript and say we love it, don't change anything else. Lol. My husband was like it's bad enough you read and watch vampire movies, now you had to write your own. I was like ya. Vampires and supernatural in general has always fascinated me as a filmmaker and avid reader, so it was fun and exciting to create a world for Aimee and I'm so excited for the release!!!

Mystery at Ocean drive Review

Mystery at Ocean Drive by Jan Hurst-Nicholson

What's it about?
When 17 yr old Jason Hunter sets out to discover the identity of the mystery girl at Ocean Drive he and his friends find themselves caught up in a risky intrigue.
Jason is delivering newspapers on his motorbike when a Mercedes sweeps out of a driveway in front of him. He loses control of his scrambler and almost ends up under the car’s wheels. An attractive teenage girl leaps out to ask if he is hurt, but before Jason can reply the girl is bundled back into the Mercedes and driven off.
Jason’s instincts warn him that the girl is in trouble.
The following day he sees her in an upstairs window, but when he asks to speak to her he is told that there is no young girl living there. Why?
Jason is not about to give up and he enlists the help of his friends, Mark and David. Together they make a daring attempt to learn the girl’s identity, but just as it seems to be working, things go horribly wrong...
Has Jason’s intriguing mystery now put all three boys in danger?

My review:
4/5
This is a great mystery book for young boys! Although I'm a grown woman and I enjoyed it to lol
It's a short, fast paced book that will keep you guessing right the way through. the action starts up right away and doesn't give to the very end.
The lead character is a great role model for young boys, he's clever and persistant and also has a pair of great friends willing to help him whenever he needs it.
I found it to be a throughly enjoyable, well written read. It has a very interesting story that I'll be saving for my son when he's older... and my daughters!

Click: an online love story review

Click: an online love story by Lisa Becker.

What's it about?
Renee Greene is approaching her 30th birthday and dreading it. Although a succesfull PR agent in LA,she's still single and tired of the dating scene.
Enters her friend Mark, who convinces her to try Online Dating...
Between the fun and the heinous dates,Renee will discover that love can really be found in the weirdest places, and that true friendship is a precious gift.

My review:
5/5
I haven't read many chick-lit novels but I think it's good to change it up every now and then, however, I've never read a book thats written as a series of emails between four friends, and have to say I did wonder how that could even be done... With great ease it seems for Ms Lisa Becker!
I was easily able to get into this breezy book right away and quickly found myself laughing out loud at Renee's escapades as she delves into the world of online dating.
Though your not actually there for the events but instead reading about them after through Renee's emails to her friends it doesn't feel like you've missed anything and the story is easy to follow.
I loved the characters to, best friend Shelley is hilarious and I constantly chuckled at Ashley's backhanded compliments. And Mark's anal retentiveness... Well, that just reminded me of myself lol
All the way through I was rooting for Renee to find the perfect guy and I think you will to, I highly recommend to all and look forward to reading anything else Ms Becker writes in the future because this was just excellent!
