The one - Review

The selection book three.
Available now

What's it about?

THE SELECTION changed the lives of thirty-five girls forever. Now, only one will claim Prince Maxon’s heart.
For the four girls who remain at the palace, the friendships they’ve formed, rivalries they’ve struggled with and dangers they’ve faced have bound them to each other for the rest of their lives.
Now, the time has come for one winner to be chosen.
America never dreamed she would find herself anywhere close to the crown – or to Prince Maxon’s heart. But as the competition approaches its end and the threats outside the palace walls grow more vicious, America realises just how much she stands to lose – and how hard she’ll have to fight for the future she wants.
My review
A great end to a great series, The one was another enjoyable read from Kiera Cass.
Whilst I think the ending was always obvious, it was still a great journey getting there and meeting all the great characters in the world of The selection. The final book still sees twists like the others as the tension ramps up in both the competition and with the rebels. America is still making herself stand out by sticking to her beliefs, a trait I've always admired in her, she's willing to risk herself and her place in the competition rather than go against her morals which in the end, I think only endears her more to Maxon and the public. I've really enjoyed the story as a trilogy and each book individually as I felt they all had something to add. By the end of The one I found everything was wrapped up nicely, I wasn't left with any niggling questions and personally I was happy with how things ended for everyone. I also found The one to be a more emotional read than the previous two books as well, maybe because I was feeling the end of a series loss but there really are some big moments that will bring a tear to your eye or having you saying 'awww' and by the last pages I was happy for everyone but sad to say goodbye at the same time. The selection has been a wonderful series to read and was written beautifully, I enjoyed the competition, the emotions and of course, the pretty dresses. I hope whatever Kiera Cass creates next will be just as wonderful as this trilogy was.

UK vs THE WORLD! (69)

UK vs. The world is a weekly meme I made up lol.
It's simlair to UK vs. US except the UK covers are battling it out with their foreign counterparts from all over the world, because who doesn't love judging books by their covers!

UK vs Indonesia
The selection book two.

Mist: I love the orange on both f these covers and that tiara is so pretty. As much as I like the UK cover, and that dress is amazing, there's so many covers with girls in pretty dresses so I think I might have to choose the Indonesian cover as my favourite just because its different and the colour really jumps out at you, I like the frame on the corners too. I do like what has been done with the mirrors on the UK cover it just doesn't stand out as much as the other cover.

Ninfa: I have to admit there is NO CONTEST here. The UK cover is just lovely! The gorgeous red gown, the mirrors all around. The whole cover is so elegant and just eye catching.
The Indonesian cover is just a bit dull for me. I really dislike the choice of colour, though I like the tiara and the corners it's just ruined by the boring background
UK all the way.

Which do you prefer?

What's it about?

Thirty-five girls came to the palace to compete in the Selection. All but six have been sent home. And only one will get to marry Prince Maxon and be crowned princess of Iléa.
America still isn’t sure where her heart lies. When she’s with Maxon, she’s swept up in their new and breathless romance, and can’t dream of being with anyone else. But whenever she sees Aspen standing guard around the palace, and is overcome with memories of the life they planned to share. With the group narrowed down to the Elite, the other girls are even more determined to win Maxon over—and time is running out for America to decide.
Just when America is sure she’s made her choice, a devastating loss makes her question everything again. And while she’s struggling to imagine her future, the violent rebels that are determined to overthrow the monarchy are growing stronger and their plans could destroy her chance at any kind of happy ending.
Other titles in the series
The selection - Book one
The Prince - Book 0.5
My review
I enjoyed The elite every bit as much as The selection, its full of will they, won't they moments, lots of drama and topped with rebel attacks to keep the reader on there toes, or should I say the edge of their seat.
If you've read book one, you know that the main focus is really America trying to decide between Prince Maxon and Aspen, and though she's still in this dilemma, it doesn't get boring or tedious, different events keep happening to sway her decision and I was with her emotionally every step of the way, I understood her motives and feelings and knew why it was such a hard decision for her to make and to be honest I can't decide who I like best either, they both have good and bad qualities. So, as you can imagine, I'm really geared up for book three as I can't wait to see who she choses and find out the mystery behind the rebels and what will happen with them. Both books in this series have been exciting page turners, lets hope the same for the conclusion!

My thoughts on the cover
I really like this cover, it ties in well with the first since its the same theme and the dress is great and makes her look a mile tall.

Favourite quotes
'Darling? The word so tender and personal, enveloped me. In that moment, any desire I had to fight my feelings for Maxon disappeared. I wanted to be his dear, his darling. I wanted to be Maxon's alone.'

'For a while we sat in silence, and I closed my eyes and focused on the sound of Aspen's breathing. Not so long ago, I'd done the same thing with Maxon. But this was different. If I had to, I thought I could pick Aspen's breathing out out of a crowd. I knew him so well. And clearly, he knew me. This tiny bit of peace was everything I'd been aching for, and Aspen made it real.'

The selection - Review

The selection book one.

What's it about?

Thirty-five beautiful girls. Thirty-five beautiful rivals…
It’s the chance of a lifetime and 17-year-old America Singer should feel lucky. She has been chosen for The Selection, a reality TV lottery in which the special few compete for gorgeous Prince Maxon's love.
Swept up in a world of elaborate gowns, glittering jewels and decadent feasts, America is living a new and glamorous life. And the prince takes a special interest in her, much to the outrage of the others.
Rivalry within The Selection is fierce and not all of the girls are prepared to play by the rules. But what they don’t know is that America has a secret — one which could throw the whole competition… and change her life forever.
My review
I'd heard from a lot of people that this book was good so I was excited to see for myself and really enjoyed it.
It was a really great modern fairy tale that was short and sweet, it had the potential to be dragged out if the author had wanted to but I'm glad she never as I've read a few of those lately and was glad to have something more to the point. I also enjoyed the little injections of what's happened in the past to explain how America has become how it has so I could get a great grasp on the world the book is set in.
This was a quick read for me, but don't let that deceive you, lots happened throughout the book to keep me entertained and it was really interesting to see how America's feelings developed without her even noticing, I chuckled to myself when she was getting jealous and she didn't even realise she was jealous lol.
It was such a fun book and a great idea that was well executed by the author, it was written really well and I'm excited to read the next book - The Elite - where hopefully America will make her decision, I'm really on the fence on the moment and not sure what 'team' I'm rooting for as I did really like both guys and think either would be good for her.
America herself was a lovely character, she does what's right for the people she loves even if it's not always what she wants, she's also caring and a bit defiant which I really liked.
The selection was a superb start to the series and I can't wait for more!

My thoughts on the cover
You probably already know what I'm going to say here: Pretty dress = win! - I am a sucker for a pretty dress cover and that dress is gorgeous, I also like how there's lots of other girls and the flash of pink in the background and how the title is wearing a tiara.

Favourite quotes
'That was all it took. His lips were on mine, and I couldn't think about anything anymore. There was no Selection, no miserable family, no Illéa itself. There was only Aspen's hands on my back pulling me closer, Aspen's breath on my cheeks.'

'With his hand holding my face toward his, Maxon lowered his lips to mine and gave me the faintest whisper of a kiss.'
