What's it about?
Sasha is desperate to find out who murdered her father. When getting the answer means pledging her soul to Eryx, she unlocks a secret that puts her in grave danger- Sasha is an Anabo, a daughter of Eve, and Eryx's biggest threat. A son of Hell, immortal and bound to Earth forever, Jax looks for redemption in the Mephisto Covenant-God's promise he will find peace in the love of an Anabo. After a thousand years, he's finally found the girl he's been searching for: Sasha. With the threat of Eryx looming, Jax has to keep Sasha safe and win her over. But can he? Will Sasha love him and give up her mortal life?
My review:
3/5
This books sounds like it should be amazing, yet somehow it just... wasn't. I'm not sure if it's because Sasha learns a whole lot in such a short period about two different things that made it feel to crowded at the start, if it was the slighlty immature dialogue or if it was the fact that the book is told by both Sasha and Jax and everything is explained right away leaving no room for mystery or suspense is what stopped me from enjoying it as much as I could have or perhaps it was a mix of the three.
The book gets right into it with a harsh and shocking scene that pulls you in but from there it's info dump after info dump which left me slightly worn down from absorbing so much information after this I found the book boring because I knew everything, there were no big twists or revelations throughout, and the ones at the end I had already guessed.
I liked the characters and the romance was nice enough but I didn't feel the spark or heat, Sasha knows she should stay away from Jax and tells him so, yet she doesn't really try to actually stay away from him at all or try to fight her attraction. And later when she finds she's changing there was no denial, no fight to stop it, she just lets it happen without question.
My own personal opinion is this book would've been a lot better if it just followed Sasha so we could unravel the mysteries with her.
Though I've read much worse this isn't a book that will stick with me and at the moment I'm not sure yet if I have plans to read the next one.
Overall the book just feels rough around the edges, like I'm reading it a couple drafts before the final edit and since this is an eARC, there's a good chance that I am, I'll certainly check my review against a final copy if I can get my hands on one.

My thoughts on the cover:
I love this cover so much! The dark tones and the beautiful black dress are just stunning and, honestly, it's what grabbed my attention about this book before I read what it was about, I see how the bridge and the mist fit into the story but I won't say anything, wouldn't want to spoil!

Favourite quotes:
"There's this thing called privacy, and you just moved into mine and put your feet up on the coffee table." - Sasha.

He knew as much about romance as he did knitting, which was exactly zero - Sasha on Jax.

  1. This is the second review that complains about too much information thrown at you at the start. I'm not sure I would like this very much. Great review. T
Too bad it didn't float your boat much.
